Jim Gill, Chicago-Based Children’s Musician & Author
Lower Level—Humphreys Multimedia Room
1st Show
9:30 a.m.–10:30 a.m.
2nd Show 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Jim Gill offers more than a show to watch—each concert is an opportunity for family play! Jim bangs out energetic rhythms on his banjo while everyone claps, jumps, dances, and even sneezes along. The concert is filled, of course, with songs from Jim’s award-winning recordings for young children and the play that he uniquely conveys in his books. This year’s concert will feature a grandiose and ridiculous singalong of Jim’s new picture book,A Soup Opera.
Jim Gill is known as a musician and author, but he is also, by training, a child development specialist with a graduate degree from the Erikson Institute of Chicago. His goal has always been to promote active play between adults and children with his music and books. Anyone who has ever seen one of Jim’s family concerts knows that rather than performing for the children and parents, Jim leads them to sing and play together.
Jim has released five recordings of his music play for children. His most recent CD, Jim Gill Sings Moving Rhymes for Modern Times, was one of only two music recordings to receive a 2007 Notable Children’s Recording Award from the American Library Association (the same organization that names the Caldecott and Newbery Awards to books). Jim is the author of two picture books, A Soup Opera and May There Always Be Sunshine. All of Jim’s work can be sampled at jimgill.com.
