The Event

On Saturday, April 6, we will hold our third annual Edible Book Festival Competition at the St. Joseph County Public Library. We invited local food professionals to create an "edible book" based on our One Book, One Michiana theme The Killer Angels: The Classic Novel of the Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg, or life during the Civil War Era. Their creations will be on display and will be judged based on originality, design, and overall appearance.
 
Schedule:
Saturday, April 6
2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Festival Open to the Public
2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.: Judging and Photography
2:45 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Awards Ceremony
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: The Edible Creations will be available to admire, taste, and enjoy!

 

Competition Guidelines

 
Rules:
Entries must be delivered in the Café area of the Main Library, fully assembled by 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.
Entrant business cards, menu, and/or signage are encouraged for the most impactful presentation.
Eligibility:
    • Must be a food professional in the Michiana area.
    • One creation per entry form, one entry per business.
    • Entry must be related to The Killer Angels: The Classic Novel of the Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg, or life during the
    Civil War Era
    • All ingredients – except base and supports – must be edible.
    • Base measurement cannot exceed 36” x 28”.
    • Entry form due Friday, March 15, 2013 by 6:00 p.m.

Judging and Awards:
Main Library Café
Judging and Photography will take place on Saturday, April 6 from 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. with the Award Ceremony at 3:00 p.m.
Entries – all relating to The Killer Angels: The Classic Novel of the Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg, or life during the Civil War Era – will be judged on originality, design, and overall appearance. Guest judges are Mark McDonnell and Heidi Prescott.
 
Categories and Prizes:
Best in Show: $200
Best Represents the Book/Civil War theme: $100
People’s Choice: $100
Honorable Mention: 5 prizes@$25 each
