Kids Mock Newbery Club
Join us for SJCPL's Mock Newbery Club. For readers ages 9-14. We'll be reading a variety of books eligible to win the 2010 Newbery Medal. Be ready to read a lot and talk about what makes the writing good--or not. Registration required. Please register online or call 282-4607.
The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

Click on the date for a reading list for that meeting.
***PLEASE NOTE: You CAN read ahead. So if you've already read some of the books on the October list and want to read from the November or December list, you can.

You are also allowed to read eligible titles on your own & submit recommendations of titles that are NOT on the list, so that something great that Kris might have missed can be discussed by the whole group & considered for our Mock Newbery Medal. AND Kris reserves the right to add a couple of titles if she finds more. : )

For the October 8 meeting (4:00-5:00 p.m.):
Read 3 or more of these 6:

For November 12 meeting (4:00-5:00 p.m.):
Read 3 titles from either the October or November lists. Try to pick titles from past lists that other Club members are excited about.

For December 10 meeting (4:00-5:00 p.m.):
Read 3 titles from any of the lists—focus on titles that other Club members are excited about if they’re from the Oct. or Nov. lists.

EXTRA CREDIT-Do you want to try some other eligible, highly recommended titles that just missed the list? These books could win, so you might want to check out some of them too. The book that won last year’s SJCPL Mock Newbery Medal was from the Extra Credit List (The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.)
