Beginning Salary: $793.60-$932.80, biweekly
Salary Range: $793.60-$1,072.00, biweekly

Location: Main Library, 304 S. Main, South Bend, IN 46601

Hours:
  • Required to work a 40-hour work week.
  • Day shift, but some Saturdays and Sundays are required.
  • Flexible hours may be required to include some evenings or nights.

Eduation and Experience:
  • Minimum 1-year full time hands-on building maintenance experience required.
  • Previous experience driving a delivery van and a good driving experience.
  • Experience with HVAC and electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of the following: procedures, of cleaning materials, methods, and equipment, and of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Essential Job Duties
    Perform preventive maintenance tasks in the Main Library Building according to P.M. calendar.
  • Perform custodial work in accordance with daily work schedules and departmental requests, including daily light bulb replacements.
  • Pick up and deliver library materials, mail, book sale items and other materials throughout library system.
  • Perform outdoor maintenance tasks, including snow removal and grounds maintenance.
  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, equipment, and display furniture.
  • Empty curbside book and video drops.
  • Receive and distribute library deliveries.
  • Inform supervisor of major maintenance and security situations.

Requirements
  • Required to have a telephone. Must be available for on-call emergency maintenance and security situations.
  • Willingness to work at or be transferred to other service areas or branches if the need arises.
  • Required to have personal transportation.
  • Required to have a mechanical aptitude.
  • Required to have a good safety record.
  • Required to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must possess the following: diligent work habits, thoroughness, cooperative attitude, courtesy, and dependability.

  • Drug Testing and Criminal History Record Check are required as a condition of employment. Any offer of employment is subject to the applicant passing a drug-screening test and Criminal History Record Check.

Personal Strengths and Abilities
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other employees and library clients.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 70 pounds, shovel snow, limb ladders, reach, bend, and work from 20 ft. scaffold.
  • Ability to work independently as well as be a team player.
  • Ability to perform moderately medium to heavy manual activities.

Location: Main Library or any of Branch Libraries, as needed.

Hours:
  • Availability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Eduation and Experience:
  • General maintenance and custodial experience.
