A Patron Speaks: John D. Smith
John D. Smith, an SJCPL patron, shares with us:
What have you recently read?
I recently read a book called Plato and a Platypus Walked into a Bar. Loved it! It was a book on philosophy and jokes. The jokes were illuminating and were tied to philosophical principles. There were jokes poking fun at different religious ideas. For instance, my family thinks they are the only ones getting into heaven. They had jokes that fit my family very well.
What do you do at SJCPL?
I use the library a lot, about 3-4 times a week. I check out books , books on tape, CDs, and movies. I lead a local cover band, so I use the library to research music. I check out 20 CDs at a time, and find music that our band can use.
I recently watched Schindler’s List for the second time, and thought it was wonderful. It reminded me of my trip to Israel, where I got to see Schindler’s gravesite. It’s nice to be able to pick movies again and again without spending a lot of money.
What do you wish SJCPL had?
I wish the library had more books on CD about history. The downtown library has the Great Courses series on CD that talks about history, philosophy, and religion. I had requested some of those CDS and the library bought them. I would be happy to see more! I love the library!
