After a few weeks of frenzied activity, the workmen building the new Francis Branch are racing toward completing their highest priority, putting up a roof and walls. Many thanks to staff member Sharon for her ongoing documentation of the work. As soon as the building is fully enclosed they’ll be set to work through the winter on the inside. Of course, once they’re in there we won’t be able to measure the progress by looking out of our front door anymore. Inside, no doubt, the place will be a hive of activity all winter. With that in mind, I’m enjoying the thrill of seeing the progress while we still can.
The behind the scenes work on the inside has already begun. The electricians are installing conduit behind the crews putting up inside walls. The builders have started putting in the fire protection. The plumbers were working on roof drains. Meanwhile, the old Francis Branch is still here and functional. You can still come in to get your books and movies, but as you waltz into our door, take a moment to survey the flurry of activity on our new home.

I’d just like to know when the River Park branch is going to reopen. I’d also like to say that the SJCPL is doing a disservice to the East Side by not having River Park open on Saturday when they do reopen.

SJCPL is working with the construction company to finalize reopening dates for both Western and River Park. As soon as these are official, we will announce them on the website.

I know the administration had to weigh several options when it came to which days to open/close individual branches. They do read this forum and so will see your comments.
