October is National Family History Month!
Most people think of family history as doing research and writing out a family tree. We in Local & Family History Services are always happy to help you do that, but real family history isn’t just books and charts, it’s about making connections across generations. There are simple ways to do that. For instance, you could:
Ask you parents how they met.
Share a story with your children.
Cook up some family recipes and talk about where they come from.
Make copies of old family photos and share them.
We have books that can help you start a conversation, like 300 Questions to Ask Your Parents Before It’s Too Late. Others will talk you through scanning photos, like How to Archive Family Keepsakes. We have books that make scrapbooking suggestions, like Scrapbooking Family Heritage. And of course, you can always ask us to help you find ancestors and fill out those charts!
