Devour a good book lately? How about an edible book?

Our third annual Edible Book Festival Competition kicks off our One Book, One Michiana events on Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s 1st Floor Café. There you will find amazing edible creations from area food professionals, all themed around The Killer Angels, the Battle of Gettysburg, or life during the Civil War Era. Vote for your favorite and see if you choose the same entries as our guest judges. Then, after the awards ceremony, you can have your cake and eat it too! We will be sampling these amazing creations. Come eat, listen to live music by Shakin’ Hammers String Band, and celebrate One Book, One Michiana with us!

Do you know the history of the Edible Book Festival? This is SJCPL’s third annual event; our first festival was for One Book, One Michiana 2011, themed to Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam.

Last year’s theme was The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Our event is based on the International Edible Book Festival that is held annually around April 1st. The international celebration began in 2000 to celebrate the birthday of French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826.)
