Rube Goldberg machines are really interesting. They take a simple task and solve it with a really complicated machine, like the one pictured above. Rube Goldberg was a Pulitzer prize-winning cartoonist who just happened to have an engineering degree. His crazy designs (which he never built) have given rise to working Rube Goldberg machine teams and contests for both high school and college students all over the world.

On February 2 at Science Alive!, you can see a lot of building projects. From model rockets, to earthquake-proof buildings to lego robotics projects, hands-on building projects will be everywhere. And after Science Alive!, you can stay involved all year long!

Wonder what kind of crazy machines have been built? Here’s one from a commercial!
