If one of your goals for 2013 involves healthy eating, living a healthier lifestyle, learning more about sustainability, eating local or growing your own food then the Earth Friendly Eating program may be the motivation you are looking for.   Presented by Judith Rubleske, R.N. nutritionist and lead gardener of Kankakee Wetlands Organic Gardens, Earth Friendly Eating provides you with information about sustainability and other topics and a chance to speak with vendors from the community. The program will be at the Main Library’s  Humprey Multimedia room on Saturday, January 12 from 10:30 until 3 at the Main Library.

Here’s the schedule for the day:Love Veggies

10:30 a.m. Sign-in

11:00 a.m. Welcome and introductions by Judith Rubleske and Pat Gable, Manger of Reference and Information Services, Main Library.

11:30 a.m. Keynote Speakers: Jessica Hellmann, Notre Dame Associate Professor of Biological Sciences on Climate Change. Joe Gady, organic farmer, on Restorative Gardening and Farming.

12:30 p.m. Break.  Mingle with local food growers, producers, bakers and restauranteurs. Traditional American music by You’ll Dew. Enjoy a sampling of green smoothies and healthy snacks. Learn how to grow micro greens and make carrot seed tape.

1:45 p.m. Panel Discussion. Join students from Krista Bailey’s IUSB Just Food : Sustainable Food Systems Class in a panel discussion.

2:45 Door Prize Winners Announced.

What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon; informative and lively discussion, meeting people in your community, food, music and possibly a start to a new way of life for you. You are welcome to  join us for the the whole day, or just come for a portion of the day.
