Introducing…Links to the Past: Michiana History

It’s a bird, It’s a plane, It’s a man in a space suit! Did you know that a flying jet pack landed in downtown South Bend in 1961? Or that a woman in St. Joseph County invented an early disposable diaper? Both of these unusual tidbits are documented in our newest resource. If you are seeking historical information & images about local people, places, buildings and businesses, try Local & Family History’s new online database, Links to the Past: Michiana History. This collection of historical data is freely available on our website and covers St. Joseph County, Michiana, and Indiana.

Particular strengths of the collection include: early history of the county, the automotive industry, art and historic houses.  It includes many photographs of Studebakers and other Indiana-built cars (such as Auburns, Cords and Duesenbergs), as well as information about well-known industries such as Oliver Chilled Plow and Ball Band.  Try it yourself and see what you find!  And remember, new images are added regularly.  Please add a comment below about your intriguing finds in this new collection.
