South Benders are lucky–we’ve got access to great sporting events, educational institutions, live performances of all types, and a beautiful river that runs right through the heart of our fair city. Here’s another piece of lucky for you: renowned & prolific children’s author April Pulley Sayre lives right here, in South Bend. April has been publishing children’s nonfiction and fiction titles since the early 1990s, using her science training and passion to travel the world getting the scoop on all sorts of animals like crabs, howler monkeys, and hummingbirds. Her most recent books, Rah, Rah, Radishes!: A Vegetable Chant and Go, Go, Grapes!: A Fruit Chant are about the joys (and yumminess!) of fruits and vegetables, and the gorgeous color images in these books were taken right here at the South Bend Farmer’s Market. You can meet this real-life, award-winning author in person–just head down to the Farmer’s Market tomorrow, Saturday, June 23–April will be signing copies of Go, Go, Grapes. If you’d like to purchase a copy, the Farmer’s Market is selling copies at their office.
You say you’re not familiar with April Pulley Sayre’s works? Here’s a list, all available from SJCPL. Every time I take a look at one of April’s books, I learn something I didn’t know, and I feel lucky again. Come, take a look–I think you might feel lucky too.

How great that the photos are from our own Farmers Market! I hope to get her books to share with those family members who have enjoyed the Market – such a community treasure. Yea, April!
