I’m reading Charlie Leduff’s book now. He’s a great writer and a great spokesperson for Detroit and the Midwest. I couldn’t help but think of his book when I was traveling the Chicago Skyway on my way “back home to Indiana” from California. So many shuttered factories and mills that are a shadow of their stinky past. My daughter went to U. of Michigan where I met tons of fantastic Detroiters (well not exactly – Detroit suburbanites). You watch – Detroit will rise again!

Great blog. Sometimes when Bonnie and I are in the South, and we tell people that we are from Indiana, they say something like this, “You live in the frozen north? You’re stupid.” I keep my mouth shut (which is hard for me), but I feel like saying, “I’ll think of you when you get your next hurricane.”

thank you for posting about Chris Bohjalian…I love his stories…many that take place in New England…
I pay special attention to him because I ran into him a few times in Burlington, VT…
once over tofu in the food coop and another time at the Vermont Library Association reception. A truly nice guy.
